It is a work from the catalog of Antoine Durenne , whose original model is installed in the Saint-Jean de Melun square , France . It is made of cast iron, was acquired in 1879 to be installed in the Plaza Mayor –today called 'de la Constitución'–, moved in 1901 to the Plaza de la Marina , and in 1914 relocated to the roundabout of the Plaza del General Torrijos , at the end of the Paseo del Parque del distrito Centro , near the neighborhood of La Malagueta .
The fountain consists of three bodies and two cups in which the three classically inspired female figures dressed in tunics and agricultural tools, an oar and the horn of plenty as an allegory to fertility and protective nymphs of fresh water stand out. Its pedestal is triangular in shape and several children seated on swans and garlands are carved on them.
The roundabout where this fountain is located constitutes an important axis where the Paseo del Parque, Paseo de la Farola, Avenida de Cánovas del Castillo, Paseo de los Curas, Maestranza street, Paseo de Reding, Paseo de Cervantes come together . and the Alcazaba tunnel . As proof of the importance of this point, we can highlight the proximity of pier 1 of the port of Malaga , the park of Malaga , the gardens of Pedro Luis Alonso , the Noble Hospital , the Municipal Heritage Museum and the bullring of La Malagueta .
This fountain served as a model for the Tres Gitanillas fountain located 1500 meters from it and whose figures appear dressed in Andalusian folklore clothing instead of the Greco-Roman tunic.
