La parroquia fue creada, como tal, aunque solamente para atender a los fieles en momentos de urgencia, a comienzos del siglo XVII. Era como una auxiliar de la parroquia de san Juan, levantada en la margen izquierda del río, a la que pertenecían espiritualmente los habitantes del barrio perchelero.
El actual templo empezó a construirse en 1630 y nunca llegó a terminarse pues los primeros planos fijaban un edificio de tres naves y solamente se levantó una, de pequeñas dimensiones y altos muros. Quedó inaugurado a principios de 1659.
The parish was created, as such, although only to attend to the faithful in moments of urgency, at the beginning of the 17th century. It was like an auxiliary of the parish of San Juan, built on the left bank of the river, to which the inhabitants of the Perchelero neighborhood belonged spiritually. The current temple began to be built in 1630 and was never finished because the first plans established a building with three naves and only one was built, small in size and with high walls. It was inaugurated at the beginning of 1659.
