This monument, in a triangular traffic island, features a life-sized statue of a fierce Tula warrier, four historical markers, and a fifth plaque that gives some history of the events here. Spanish conquistador Hernando DeSoto met and fought Tula Indians here, after which he turned south into what is now Louisiana. The statue and brick monument were contructed by the WPA in 1935. The plaque does not name the sculptor.
