PLAQUE TEXT:
"Sgt. Andrew Harnett
Sgt. Andrew Harnett was born December 12, 1983 in Hamilton, ON to Richard and Valerie. Andrew grew up in the west end of Hagersville - with brothers Jason and Chris - participating in activities and volunteering with organizations like Hagersville Secondary School Crime Stoppers, Hagersville Scouts, Minor Hockey, the Ontario Provincial and H-N Regional Police and the United Church.

Andrew was a natural athlete - often seen running through town - keeping fit to fulfill his lifelong goal, a career in policing. Andrew followed in the military footsteps of his grandfather, Glenn Harnett, by attending Military Police training at Base Borden in Barrie, where her graduated top recruit in his class.

Andrew was deployed to Edmonton Garrison Base and served as a Military Police Officer for three years. He grew to love Canada's west and eventually fulfilled his dream of working with the Calgary Police Service. Andrew was known for his dedication, work ethic, attention to detail and ability to connect with people. In 2018, Andrew was promoted to Sergeant in District 5, where he would lead his team in several operation and initiatives. After 12 years of dedicated service, professional acknowledgements and awards, Andrew's life ended tragically on December 31, 2020 when he succumbed to injuries after attempting to stop a fleeing SUV while on duty.

Andrew has been immortalized through the Honour Wall in the Arthur Duncan Chapel at Westwinds, on the Pillar of Strength at the legislative grounds in Edmonton, and on the National Police Memorial in Ottawa. Andrew will be forever loved and remembered by his family and friends. The Sgt. Andrew Harnett Memorial Park is a fitting tribute to a man who loved life, keeping active and serving his community and country."
