This Covered Bridge is located on Schoellkopf Road crossing Cayuga Creek, and is a few miles south-east of Cowlesville, New York. The bridge is a authentic covered wooden bridge built in 2002 by the L.C. Whitford Company and engineers Labella Associates.
The covered bridge was decided on because analysis showed it would actually last longer then concrete or steel bridges, and pays tribute to the history of the area, which at one point had six covered bridges going over Cayuga Creek.
The bridge is named for US Army Sergeant Charles R. Cannon who served with the 35th Engineering Battalion building bridges in World War II. He died while his unit was attempting a night crossing of the Rhine River by boat.
The bridge is one lane and features a fire suppression system.
