Railroad culverts have dates chiselled on vertical surfaces. On this culvert, both roadside horizontal surfaces have the following characters: ONTARIO PROVINCIAL HIGHWAY 1919. Considering the potential for erosion, the inscriptions are still sharp.

This isolated segment of Windmill Lane was once part of the highway between Toronto and Montreal. The Department of Public Highways in Ontario dates back to 1917. This culvert would have been built for the original right-of-way of King’s Highway 2. In the past, this route was known as highway 2 all the way to Halifax.
Year built or dedicated as indicated on the structure or plaque: 1919

Full Inscription (unless noted above):
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL HIGHWAY 1919
