The owners of the raceway purchased the statue in April of 1982 when the Danbury State Fair in Connecticut, sold all of its remaining "Muffler Men Statues". On October 29, 2012, the indian was cut in half at the waist by the high winds of Superstorm Sandy. He was repaired by December 2012 and was back standing in front of the Riverhead Raceway.
