"Location
The monument is located in the French department of Calvados, in the city center of Vire (integrated in 2016 into the new municipality of Vire Normandie), near the Vire. The tower owes its name to the frogs (Rainettes) that croaked on the banks of the coastal river.

History
The tower was part of the city ramparts built by order of Saint Louis from 1250. It marks the southeast corner. The building has been listed as a Historic Monument since August 6, 1951. It was purchased by the city in 1962."

Le monument est situé dans le département français du Calvados, dans le centre-ville de Vire (intégré en 2016 à la commune nouvelle de Vire Normandie), à proximité de la Vire. La tour doit son nom aux grenouilles (Rainettes) qui coassaient aux bord du fleuve côtier.

Historique
La tour faisait partie des remparts de la ville construits sur ordre de Saint Louis à partir de 1250. Elle en marque l'angle sud-est. L'édifice est inscrit au titre des Monuments historiques depuis le 6 août 1951. Elle a été achetée par la ville en 1962."
