First let us deal with the outhouse itself. I believe it was built of wood, but is now covered in corrugated steel sheet. The roof is a slant back roof.
The building looks like it is a one holer, but inside it actually has two. The seating platform is in very sad shape. The one seat is intact, but is resting on rotted out material and in danger of falling in. I would not sit there. The other side the seat is gone and the platform is decaying.
I was there for a honor guard for a US Navy veterans' funeral.
This was the cemetery for man named Simon Thornhill who was murdered by a neighbor, and became the area cemetery.
Simon Thornhill was born in Kentucky, and when he became a man went to California to find gold, which he did in abundance. He came back got married and built his home here. When he was killed, stabbed outside his home, the legend says his wife screams could be heard for over 10 miles in every direction.
The chimney to his original house still stands, and he was buried here. This then became the family cemetery, and today, is a local cemetery run by the Thornhill Cemetery Association.
