They planted their first block of Pinot Noir in 2012. Broken Boulder Vineyard was named for the enormous basalt boulders that graced the fields, courtesy of Mt. Hood thousands of years ago.

The huge rocks hid just under the surface to make straight lines for trellis and irrigation systems impossible.
An excavator was hired to pull them from the soil. Piles of these boulders are at the end of every vineyard block.
The “Stone” in Stave & Stone comes from the vineyard boulders. The family name, Fletcher, means arrow maker. “Stave” therefore has a double definition, as it refers to a rib of a wine barrel and it can also mean an archery bow.
They have 50 acres of planted grapes starting back in 2012. Nestled between two volcanos, north, and south, the views are unparalleled from the main Winery Tasting room and the Wine Garden.
