THE POLISH-AMERICAN CONGRESS OF CONNECTICUT
OCTOBER 12, 1958

The first settlers from Poland arrived at Jamestown aboard the ship Mary and Margaret on October 1, 1608. Four Poles were brought to the colony because they were skilled workers in an attempt to by the Virginia Company develop commercial activity in America. They were a glass blower, a pitch and tar maker, a soap maker, and a timberman.
