"It is located behind the convent of the Sisters of the Cross in Plaza de Arriola, in the Pasillo de Atocha, facing the church of Santo Domingo.
Its sculptor, Francisco Martín, has reflected in the image the desire of a large group of Malagans linked to the work of the Sisters of the Cross, and who have been the ones who have fought for this idea to come true.
The statue of Sor Ángela is the fruit of her efforts and her affection, even of those who have already passed away, but who will surely enjoy this event in the presence of the Father.
The Company of the Cross has received this gesture with great appreciation and wants it to serve so that Malaga is aware of the great wealth that the charism of Santa Ángela represents for our diocese."
ÁNGELA DE LA CRUZ
"Ángela Guerrero González, Sister Ángela de la Cruz, Mother of the Poor was born in Seville on January 30, 1846. The daughter of honest and poor parents.
His father José Guerrero had come to Seville, from Grazalema, a town in the Serranía de Ronda, among those waves of emigrants to the big cities in search of better employment, which usually accompany the development of industrial civilization.
Married in Seville to the young Josefa González, whose parents were from Seville (Arahal and Zafra). The two husbands had up to fourteen children, of whom only six, three sons and three daughters, survived to adulthood. Both worked for the convent of the Trinitarian Fathers, not far from Calle Santa Lucía, 13, where they had their house when Angelita was born. The father was the cook and the mother washed, sewed and ironed the clothes of the friars. The girl was baptized in the parish of Santa Lucía, on February 2 with the name of María de los Ángeles, but for those who know her, she will always be Angelita.
At home she learned good examples of piety, but also the zeal of her mother, who with her few resources took care that the poor children of the neighborhood were baptized as soon as possible, acting as godmother to many. In a room of the house she put an altar to the Virgin in the month of May, and there the rosary was prayed and a special gift was given to the Virgin.
His father died soon. However, her mother came to see the work of her daughter, and the Little Sisters of the Cross called her with the sweet name of "grandma" and were amazed at the many virtues that flourished in the garden of her soul. she. She knew how to transplant them into the garden of the soul of her daughter, Angela of hers. It is said that one day, when she was still very young, she disappeared and everyone looked for her. Everyone except her mother who immediately guessed where she was: in the church. There they found her praying and touring the altars. She, when she is older, will say: "I spent all the time I could in church, giving me altar blessings like little girls do."
When she reached the age of being able to work, her parents placed her as an apprentice in a shoe workshop from the age of 12 to contribute to the family economy, where she remained until she was 29 almost without interruption, with all the guarantees so that in the world of work not lose his innocence and Christian virtue. The workshop teacher Mrs. Antonia Maldonado, was the spiritual director of the canon Mr. José Torres Padilla, who was famous in Seville for preparing saints, they called him "the santero" because of the type of people who confessed and directed him. Doña Antonia will put the fervent disciple Angelita Guerrero in contact with him. There the daily prayer of the rosary was organized among the employees and the lives of saints were read.
From 1862 to 1865, Ángela, who amazes all who know her with her virtues, divides her day between her home, the workshop, the churches where she prays and the poor homes she visits."
