"Location
This cemetery is located northwest of the village of Maissemy, in the hamlet of Vadancourt, on the D33, the former Chaussée Brunehaut linking Bellenglise to Vermand. Maissemy German Military Cemetery is 2.5 km northeast on the same road.

History
Maissemy was occupied by the Germans in August 1914 and was not recaptured until August 1917 by British troops, when the cemetery was started. The sector again passed into German hands in April 1918 and was definitively taken over by the 59th Division (North Midland) only in October 1918. After the armistice, many bodies of soldiers from various places were transferred there.

Features
The Vadancourt British Military Cemetery has 760 soldiers (including 214 unknown). There are 735 British (including 212 unknown), 11 Australians (including 2 unknown), 7 Canadians and 7 Indians. They were buried there from August 1917 to March 1918 and then in October and November 1918 by the 5th, 47th and 61st Casualty Clearing Stations. After the armistice, 4 French, 31 Americans and 28 Germans were transferred while were added to this one, those of the extension of the cemetery of the church of Vendelles (36 British) and the castle of Vadencourt ( 9 British and 6 Canadians). The names of 5 Indian horsemen whose bodies were cremated are inscribed on a memorial. A British Victoria Cross recipient, Lieutenant-Colonel John Dimmer is buried in the military cemetery."
