This building was originally constructed as a Shell Oil station. At that time the community of Peach Springs straddled U.S. Route 66, the mother road. With many miles between communities, primitive roads and early cars, a community like Peach Springs provided an opportunity to stretch your legs, acquire supplies and prepare for the next leg of your journey. All of that changed when Interstate 40 was constructed in 1978. The tourist-based economy of the area collapsed and the gas station closed in 2005.
