The badge depicts in relief the gateway to Cape Town Castle surrounded by a crown of King Proteas (national flower of South Africa) and capped with the national coat of arms used between 1910 and 2000.

The Victorian Gothic clock tower has always been an icon of the Old Docks. Built in 1882 as the port captain's office, the clock tower was restored in 1997 and painted yellow in 2013 (it was previously red) for Cape Town's nomination as the world capital of design 2014.
