It is located in the Ensanche Heredia , next to the Plaza de la Marina and the intersection of the Alameda Principal with Calle Larios.
Its height is 42 meters and it has a total of 14 floors. The position of the tower, facing Calle Larios, highlights the importance of this road and gives it a unique element that encloses the urban space of the street.
On September 1, 2021, the four-star Soho Boutique Equitativa hotel was inaugurated , while on October 15 of the same year the five-star Only You Málaga hotel opened to the public. Both occupy the entire building.
History
The insurance company La Equitativa acquired in 1947 the land where the old palace of the Larios family was located , destroyed during the Spanish Civil War on February 12, 1937. The company began construction work on a new building, designed by the architects Manuel Cabanyes y Mata and Juan Jáuregui Briales , who introduced the model of American skyscrapers in the city, but with native elements in its decoration, such as the neo-Islamic- inspired tower that ends with a hypothetical yamurbuilding. The works finally concluded in 1956.
The insurance company La Equitativa was merged and disappeared in 1998. Subsequently, the building ended up divided between the promoter Rubcapel, which held 60% of it, and Ingomar, owner of the complex tower, which represented 30%. The rest of the owners were a couple of businesses located at street level. Throughout 2014 it was undergoing restoration works, subsidized by the Malaga City Council , to restore the exterior appearance, which was very deteriorated.
Hotels
On October 27, 2017, the majority owner Rubcapel sold its part of the building to the hotel company Key International, who applied on June 22, 2018 for a building permit to convert the building into a five-star hotel with 80 rooms. The company obtained the license in April 2019 and began the works with a budget of almost 7 million euros. Key International ceded management to the Only You Málaga hotel , belonging to the Palladium hotel group after being inaugurated on October 15, 2021.
On the other hand, the promoter Ingomar, owner of the tower of the building with fourteen floors and 42 meters high, acquired the building permit in October 2019 for the creation of a four-star hotel with 74 rooms and with a budget of 5 million euros. Ingomar ceded the management of the site for the creation of the Soho Boutique Equitativa hotel establishment , whose inauguration took place on September 1, 2021. The project included the opening of a restaurant at street level, as well as an infinity pool and a terrace with a panoramic view of Larios street .
