Oklahoma City now has a Mexican Consulate, located on the north side of Sheridan, west of Western Ave. It is estimated that it will serve about 100,000 in the community.

News article:

The Mexican consulate in Oklahoma City is open for business.

The inauguration ceremony acknowledged the importance of it to the OKC community. The consulate is in Film Row in downtown OKC and has been a work in progress with the Mexican government.

Now, OKC’s Latino community can find all sorts of services closer to home. The inauguration had Mexican music, food and vendors to celebrate the day.

Before the opening, many would have to travel to Arkansas. Now, they can help with birth certificates, passports and immigration process services.

For Oklahomans, the consulate provides an opportunity to learn the culture and travel opportunities Mexico has to offer. Representatives from Mexico and Oklahoma were in attendance to celebrate.

"We met with all the leadership of the Mexican government and we told them how important this was to our Hispanic community in the state of Oklahoma. As this Mexican-American community grows, we will grow together in America’s twentieth-largest city," said Gov. Kevin Stitt.

Stitt praised the work of OKC Mayor David Holt in bringing the consulate to OKC.

"You’re welcoming to a consulate of Mexico and the support you have provided us in this process are a testament to this vision," said Edurne Pineda, Mexican consul.

The consulate will serve more than 100,000 Mexican-Americans that call this area home.
