"Princeton holds a seat on Gibson county, which was formed in 1813. With the establishment of the Indiana territory in 1800, many settlers moved to the southwest of the territory, where Princeton is now located; the shift was due to the rich farmlands as well as the area's proximity to the Ohio River. The city got its name from William Prince, an Irishman who immigrated to the area and later on became a Gibson county Commissioner. Princeton was officially incorporated as a city in 1818." ~ City & Town Info
