M5 Stuart light tank used by the Royal Canadian Armoured Corps near the end of the Second World War. It was primarily used in the armoured reconnaissance role.

This example is marked with the white star, signifying an Allied asset after the Normandy invasion of 1944. This assisted Allied aircraft in not targeting friendly assets when on bombing/strafing patrol over continental Europe.

The M5 varied from previous versions in that it had twin Cadillac V8 engines and twin transmissions. Earlier versions used aircraft engines as motive power; these were required for flying operations.

The M5 maintained its 38MM cannon, despite requests from tank crews for heaver armament.

The M5 was in production from 1942 until 1944, with about 8,800 total produced.
