El monumento a Santiago Amón (Baracaldo, 20.V.1927 – Madrid, 1.VII.1988) está situado en la avenida del mismo nombre, al lado del río Carrión y del Puente de Hierro, en la ciudad de Palencia.

Es un busto de bronce colocado en una gran piedra y con una placa en granito con fecha de 29 de junio de 1990, en la que se inauguró el monumento y el nombre de la avenida donde está situado.

El autor de la obra es Indalecio López Castillo.

Santiago Amón de origen vizcaíno, estudió Humanidades y Filosofía en el Seminario de la calle Cardenal Almaraz de Palencia, adonde se había trasladado su familia.

Amigo del poeta palentino Gabino-Alejandro Carriedo, entra en contacto con el grupo poético y cultural Nubis, en cuya revista colabora en varias ocasiones.

Prosiguió sus estudios de Filosofía y Letras en Valladolid y, más tarde, en Madrid. Además de libros de poesía, publicó numerosos estudios sobre arte. Gran aficionado a los toros, este periodista y crítico de arte se ocupó en diversas publicaciones del tema taurino, además de impartir numerosas conferencias.

Como crítico de arte, colaboró en gran cantidad de revistas de arte españolas y extranjeras. Colaboró también en El País, escribiendo sobre temas culturales, desde su fundación hasta 1979, y también lo hizo en ABC, La Vanguardia y Diario 16. Fue crítico de arte de Televisión Española en el programa Espacio XX, y desde 1984, en Antena 3. Fue Premio de Periodismo Ciudad de Úbeda en 1984. Falleció en un accidente aéreo, al precipitarse el helicóptero en el que viajaba en la niebla de la sierra en Valdemanco (Madrid), cuando se dirigía a Aguilar de Campoo dentro de sus actividades dedicadas a la conservación del patrimonio histórico artístico, pues pertenecía a la Asociación de Amigos del Monasterio de Aguilar de Campoo

Recibió, a título póstumo, la Medalla de Oro de la ciudad de Madrid.
