Su nombre, viene en honor de uno de los personajes más míticos de Málaga. "El Pimpi" un joven que ayudaba en lo que pudiera a los viajeros que llegaban al puerto de Málaga. Además del bar, cuenta conuna gran terraza, y otra zona al lado bautizada como "la Sole del Pimpi", en la que por cierto, suele haber música en directo a modo de espectáculo para amenizar la velada.
El actor malagueño Antonio Banderas ha comprado El Pimpi, su restaurante favorito de su ciudad natal y uno de los restaurantes más afamados de la zona.
