El templo lo empezó Tito en el año 79, pero lo terminó su hermano, también emperador, Domiciano, aproximadamente en el año 87.
La construcción del templo empezó con Tito poco después de la muerte de su padre Vespasiano ocurrida el 23 de junio del 79 y el comienzo del procedimiento de divinización, según una práctica iniciada por la apoteosis de Claudio. Este procedimiento no era inmediato y se extendió durante meses entre septiembre del 79 y mayo del 80. Las primeras monedas que celebraron el acontecimiento no aparecieron hasta principios del año 80 después de ser oficializado por el Senado?. Los trabajos no pudieron por lo tanto probablemente comenzar hasta finales del año 79 o principios del siguiente. Ese año, Roma se vio afectada por un gran incendio que causó numerosos daños que necesitaron importantes trabajos, lo que sin duda ralentizó los trabajos de construcción del templo, viendo retrasados esos mismos trabajos que no habrían podido comenzar más que unos meses más tarde, hacia el año 81.
Hoy en día, solamente pueden verse los altos cimientos conservados contra uno de los muros del Tabularium, el centro del podio, una pequeña parte de la cella, y tres columnas corintias en la esquina sureste del pórtico.? Un gran fragmento del entablamento está expuesto en una de las galerías del Tabularium desde 1827 a los lados de una sección del entablamento del templo vecino de la Concordia, reconstruidos a partir de los fragmentos recuperados en la zona en 1823.
The temple was started by Titus in the year 79, but finished by his brother, also emperor, Domitian, in approximately the year 87.
The construction of the temple began with Titus shortly after the death of his father Vespasian which occurred on June 23, 79 and the beginning of the divinization procedure, according to a practice initiated by the apotheosis of Claudius. This procedure was not immediate and lasted for months between September 1979 and May 1980. The first coins that celebrated the event did not appear until the beginning of the year 1980 after it was made official by the Senate. The works could not therefore probably begin until the end of the year 79 or the beginning of the following. That year, Rome was affected by a great fire that caused numerous damages that required important works, which undoubtedly slowed down the construction work on the temple, seeing those same works delayed that could not have started more than a few months later, around the year 81.
Today, only the high foundations preserved against one of the walls of the Tabularium, the center of the podium, a small part of the cella, and three Corinthian columns in the south-east corner of the portico can be seen. A large fragment of the entablature is exposed. in one of the galleries of the Tabularium since 1827 on the sides of a section of the entablature of the neighboring temple of La Concordia, reconstructed from the fragments recovered in the area in 1823.
