Portland Port is on the north end of Portland Island. The south end is an important quarry. The port is actually a former military base with limited access. However north of the port is the resort town of Weymouth. The town supplies free shuttle buses to the center of Weymouth where there are pubs, restaurants, a picturesque harbor, a beach, and an amusement park. The shuttle bus makes two stop: to the nearby Portland Castle and the downtown area of Weymouth.
