DE: Am 13. November 1872 ereignete sich die vermutlich schwerste Sturmflut für die deutsch-dänische Ostseeküste. In dieser Sturmflut verloren 271 Menschen ihr Leben, über 15.000 wurden obdachlos. Das Wasser stieg in Warnemünde auf 2,71m über den normalen Wert und gilt seitdem als Marke für den Ausbau beim Küstenschutz.

Die etwa 500m lange Schutzwand am alten Strom wurde 2020 fertiggestellt und hat eine Höhe von 3m über dem mittleren Wert. Am Zugang zum Hafen wurde eine Metalltafel angebracht, auf der neben den Informationen über die Schutzwand auch die Wasserstände der Sturmfluten über 1.6m und das Datum der jeweiligen Flut notiert ist.


EN: On November 13th, 1872, what is probably the most severe storm surge for the German-Danish Baltic Sea coast occurred. In this storm surge, 271 people lost their lives and more than 15,000 were made homeless. The water in Warnemünde rose to 2.71m above the normal value and has since been considered a mark for the expansion of coastal protection.

The approximately 500m long protective wall on the old stream was completed in 2020 and has a height of 3m above the average value. A metal plaque was installed at the entrance to the port, which, in addition to information about the protective wall, also notes the water levels of the storm surges over 1.6m and the date of the respective tide.
