Joe Mack Wilson was a lifelong Marietta citizen and decorated civic leader. Educated by the Marietta School System and Georgia Tech, Wilson served as State Representative (1961 to 1985) and Mayor of Marietta from 1990 until his death in 1993. As a Legislator he was Chair of the powerful Ways and Means Committee. A downtown business owner, family man, longtime Marietta Kiwanian, and member of the Downtown Marietta Development Authority for two decades. Mayor Wilson was a visionary. He encouraged the beautification of downtown Marietta and the revitalization of Glover Park. This park is a fitting tribute to his leadership and service to the community he loved.
