This trailhead for the North Country Trail is located along Route 8, near the intersection with Route 173 about 5 miles south of the town of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. The trailhead is at the parking lot for the historic Old Stone House, which was built in 1822. At the trailhead is a signboard, which was built by Tyler Stoops in 2022 as an Eagle Scout Project. The sign includes a map, general information about the North Country Trail, specific information about the trail in Butler County, information about the Old Stone House, and bulletin board space. There is also an older map signboard at the trailhead, along with the standard post with the blue blaze and NCT logo. From this trailhead, if you travel south, you will be heading toward Moraine State Park. Travelling north, a hiker would have to walk along the road for about 6 miles toward West Sunbury where the trail continues.
