The Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester in 2002, on a former industrial site that was re-generated with a number of new stadiums and sports facilities known as Sportcity.
The screen overlooks what was at the time of the games the warm up track for Athletics and is now the Manchester Regional Stadium that hosts athletic events and other sports including rugby.
It is also close to the main stadium for the games where the athletic events were held. This stadium has now been converted to a football stadium snd is the home of the Premier League football club Manchester City.
The engraving on the screen lists all the gold medal winners from the games and has the following inscription.
