This massacre, also known as Amritsar massacre, took place on the 13th April 1919.
In that day a crowd assembled on Jallianwala Bagh to protest against Rowlatt Act and the detention of some pro-independence activists.
The demonstrators were surrounded by units of Gurkha, Baloch, Rajput and Sikh troops from 2-9th Gurkhas, the 54th Sikhs and the 59th Scinde Rifles.
The troops took position blocking the only possible exit of the area and then brigadier general R. E. H. Dyer ordered them to open fire.
As it's expected in such situations, nobody knows exactly how many people died. Estimates go from 379 to 1,500. Plus a similar number of injured.
The event had a major impact on the image of the UK amongst the common Indian people and it was a key factor in the proccess of independence of India.
