FR La pointe de Corsen est un cap situé sur la commune de Plouarzel, dans le Finistère, en France. La pointe est le point le plus à l'ouest de la France métropolitaine continentale, alors que les touristes attribuent le plus souvent cette caractéristique à la pointe du Raz. La ville la plus à l'ouest de la France métropolitaine est Lampaul située sur l'île d'Ouessant.

Lieu touristique

Du fait de sa position géographique extrême, cette pointe est considérée comme la frontière théorique entre la Manche et l'océan Atlantique. À proximité de la pointe, se trouve le phare de Corsen avec des bâtiments en ruines (ancien dépôt du service des phares et balises, et à 1,5 km le phare de Trézien, dont l'originalité tient dans son emplacement à l'intérieur des terres, à un bon kilomètre du rivage. Au moment de l'échouement de l'Amoco Cadiz en mars 1978, il n'existe pas de CROSS dans les parages d'Ouessant. Le ministère de la mer fait réaliser le CROSS Corsen qui devient opérationnel en octobre 1982. Ce centre, situé sur la route de la pointe, ouvre ses portes uniquement pour des visites privées au cours desquelles sont présentées son rôle dans la centralisation des alertes et la coordination des missions de surveillance du rail d'Ouessant et du sauvetage en mer entre le Mont Saint-Michel et la pointe de Penmarch.

Géologie

La pointe forme une falaise de 30 m de haut constituée par un granite hercynien, tardif par rapport au métamorphisme régional, et qui a recoupé le gneiss de Kerhormou (paragneiss avec une texture granoblastique orientée et dont la foliation est à pendage Sud) affleurant en falaise et sur l'estran plus au sud. Ce gneiss passe insensiblement à des migmatites et aux granodiorites de la Pointe des Renards, témoignant d'un métamorphisme croissant. Il est observable au niveau de la pointe sous forme de vastes panneaux dans le granite.

The tip is the westernmost point of mainland metropolitan France, while tourists most often attribute this feature to the Pointe du Raz. The westernmost city of metropolitan France is Lampaul located on the island of Ouessant.

Tourist place

Due to its extreme geographical position, this point is considered the theoretical border between the English Channel and the Atlantic Ocean. Near the point, is the lighthouse of Corsen with buildings in ruins (former depot of the service of lighthouses and beacons, and 1.5 km away the lighthouse of Trézien, whose originality lies in its location inside land, a good kilometer from the shore. When the Amoco Cadiz ran aground in March 1978, there was no CROSS in the vicinity of Ouessant. The Ministry of the Sea commissioned the CROSS Corsen, which became operational in October 1982. This center, located on the road to the tip, opened its doors only for private visits during which its role in centralizing alerts and coordination of Ouessant rail surveillance missions and rescue at sea between Mont Saint-Michel and Pointe de Penmarch.

geology

The point forms a 30 m high cliff made up of a Hercynian granite, late in relation to regional metamorphism, and which intersected the Kerhormou gneiss (paragneiss with an oriented granoblastic texture and whose foliation dips south) outcropping in the cliff and on the foreshore further south. This gneiss passes imperceptibly to migmatites and granodiorites of Pointe des Renards, testifying to increasing metamorphism. It is observable at the level of the point in the form of vast panels in the granite.
