The Hayward Fault's displacement has resulted in fissures in the asphalt and concrete of Fremont's Central Park. In the Fremont region, the rate of movement is about 5 millimeters per year, which is sufficient to displace concrete clearly in a few years. The Hayward Fault helped shape some of Central Park in Fremont's topography. A man-made lake, Lake Elizabeth, was created from a natural depression brought on by fault movement.
Several instances of tectonic movement brought on by a strike-slip motion along the Hayward Fault may be seen on the building's side that faces Lake Elizabeth. When one land mass slides nearly horizontally in the opposite direction of the other on the surface, this is referred to as a strike-slip fault. Larger land constructions that are growing throughout Central Park are reflected in the activity on the patio. The hilly regions (north) reflect a compression, whilst Lake Elizabeth and Stivers Lagoon (south of the lake) are greater depressions. Transpressional compression (knolls) and transtensional extension (depressions) are visible in strike-slip faults.
