Miami Municipal Airport opened in December 1937 to serve the rapidly growing air traffic industry. But with war brewing the facility was taken over in the summer of 1941 by the Army Air Force to train British pilots as part of the Lend-Lease program. A year later the field was used to train U.S. pilots. The "then" photo is on display in the current airport office, about a mile to the west.
