This mosque is located in Sonargaeon, today a group of villages in the edge of Dhaka but in the past a capital of the local kingdom. Sonargaeon lost its significance to the changes in the economical context but remains an interesting place to visit.
Goaldi mosque is one of the witnesses of the golden past of Sonargaeon. Abandoned but charming, little but beautiful, it can ve bisited anytime as there are no fences at all neither a fee is recquired.
There is a board just outside the mosque, old and rusty and written both in Bengali and in a very broken English. See attached photo.
The church was declared as protected heritage under the Anitquity Act in 1968, still when Bangladesh was just part of Pakistan.
