[FIN] Emil Filénin lentoon lähtevää kurkiparia kuvaava Kurjet -veistos oli ensimmäinen sotien jälkeen paljastettu julkinen teos kaupungissa. Veistos on osa suihkukaivoa ja -allasta. Teoksen sijoituspaikka Lappeen kirkon edustalla, Keskuspuiston reunassa, liittyy talvisodan Lappeenrannan pommituksiin. Paikalla sijainnut väestönsuoja sai täysosuman keskitalvella 15.2.1940 surmaten kymmenen ihmistä ja haavoittaen kahtakymmentä.

[EN] Emil Filén's Kurjet sculpture, depicting a pair of cranes taking flight, was the first public work unveiled in the city after the wars. The sculpture is part of the fountain and pool. The placement of the piece in front of the Lappeen church, on the edge of Keskuspuisto, is related to the bombings of Lappeenranta during the winter war. The civilian shelter located on the spot took a complete hit in the middle of winter on February 15, 1940, killing ten people and wounding twenty.
