Side 1
Company town of Kentucky’s only Portland cement manufacturer. Philadelphia industrialist Samuel Horner Jr. developed housing for white and black workers of his Kosmos Portland Cement Co. in rural Jefferson County. A rail station, post office, churches, a school, and a company store served Kosmos mill workers and river men.
Sponsored by Metro Councilman Bob Henderson
Side 2
A fleet of boats, each with a name beginning with a “K”, towed cement, general freight, and rock quarried by Kosmos in Meade Co. In 1957, the Horner heirs sold the company, after plant was union organized. Kosmosdale village was razed as the plant was rebuilt in the early 1970s. Many relocated after 2-year strike against former owner, 1982.
Dedicated to Kosmos workers & their descendants
