"This building serves as the headquarters of the Institute of Port Studies.
Architecture
It is an eclectic building of neoclassical inspiration , as shown by the Doric columns on pedestals of the semicircular main façade, topped with a pediment with a clock that reveals its former function as a railway station.
The bichrome treatment of the exterior in white and red stands out, which gives it uniformity with the other buildings in the Plaza de la Marina.
History
The first stone of the building was laid on February 21 , 1911 by the Minister of Development , Rafael Gasset and the General Director of Public Works, Luis de Armiñán and blessed by the Bishop , Juan Muñoz de Herrera. The building is the work of the architects Enrique Verdú and Leopoldo Werner. It came into operation after the transfer of the head from La Malagueta to the port entrance. It gave coverage to the Málaga Suburban Railway network that linked the Málaga capital with Coín , with Ventas de Zafarraya through Vélez-Málaga and with Fuengirola . In1995 , it underwent a restoration by Juan Pablo Gómez de la Fuente.
Of the lines that started from there, all were closed in the 1960s . Only the Fuengirola line, built by the company Ferrocarriles de Málaga a Algeciras y Cádiz , operated by FSM until 1934 and later passed into the hands of FEVE , remained active."
