Campbell County was created in 1806 and Jacksboro was selected as the county seat. It's named for Arthur Campbell, who was a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses and who was a negotiator of Indian treaties. This Neo-Classical building is the fourth courthouse built here and was constructed in 1926-27.
The following is a description of the courthouse from courthouses.co
"The building faces south and is a two story red colored brick and concrete structure. The building is located on landscaped grounds in the center of Jacksboro. The south front has a large portico with four columns rising to a wide header at the roof line. The recessed entrance has a small balcony above on the second story. A wide black colored belt runs below the roof line. The building houses the County Circuit Court, County Chancery Court, County Criminal Court and County General Sessions Court of the 8th Judicial District. On the west side is a one story addition constructed in 1964. The architect was Cury & Associates and the contractor was Pennington & McKebee. On the north side is the County Justice Center which was expanded. The architects were Michael Brady Inc. and Treanor Architects."
