"RANDOLPH, 13 m. (1,560 alt., 27 pop.), is named for Colonel Espes Randolph, former vice president and general manager of the Southern Pacific lines."
American-Guide-Series - Arizona, A Guide, P.403, 1940

Randolph developed in the 1920's as the Southern Pacific railroad saw the opportunity to create a town. It is located in a cotton growing area and drew the attention of black families from Oklahoma who were fleeing the dust bowl. Cotton picking was automated in the 1950's and the cotton fields are being replaced by industrial developments. The community's few remaining residents are fighting back against the pollution and noise that is beginning to surround them.
