[FR] Les mares bruyantes où barbote le Triton crêté, les chênes centenaires, unique nourriture du Grand Capricorne, les prés humides créent un ensemble bocager rare, doté d’une forêt alluviale en voie de disparition en France.
Les crues du Cher et ses étiages façonnent le paysage et nourrissent 427 espèces recensées, dont 260 plantes et 50 oiseaux. Le Guêpier d’Europe, l’Hirondelle de rivage, la Pie-grièche écorcheur, trois espèces protégées, nichent entre falaises et bancs de sable.
Cet écosystème a été fortement perturbé par les extractions de sable, stoppées en 1987, et l’envahissement de plantes exogènes (extérieures à l’écosystème) comme la renouée hybride, l’ambroisie à feuille d’armoise ou le robinier.

A cet effet, l’abbaye dispose d’un médiateur nature qui, d’avril à octobre propose des visites et animations afin de découvrir cet espace.

The floods of the Cher and its low water levels shape the landscape and feed 427 species, including 260 plants and 50 birds. The European Bee-eater, the Bank Swallow, the Red-backed Shrike, three protected species, nest between cliffs and sandbanks.
This ecosystem has been greatly disturbed by sand extraction, stopped in 1987, and the invasion of exogenous plants (outside the ecosystem) such as hybrid knotweed, mugwort or black locust.
