The plaque reads:
"The Archimedean screw found in 1990 during the construction of the geriatric ward of the Bonifatius Hospital was used to transport water in the 17th century.
The Archimedean screw has a length of just over five meters and a diameter of almost one meter. The spiral-shaped wooden device was enclosed in a tubular casing. The rotation of the screw was caused by a windmill. By turning, the screw conveyed groundwater to the surface. This was collected in a tank or trough.
Archimedean screws would be used in England as early as the 12th century, and in Germany since the 13th century, for drainage in areas of low elevation.
In 1991, the find was restored at the Vocational Training Center.
A scaled-down model has been located in the courtyard of this new building since the completion of the geriatric center."
