The Skyline Drive In was opened in 1957 initially with one screen and it was later expanded to two. Its maximum capacity was 724 cars.
It was the first Drive in to open in Sydney and at the time was on the rural fringe of Sydney so land was inexpensive. Over time as the city expanded, the value of the land increased so it was not profitable to operate and large cinemas made this style of viewing less popular.
It closed in 2007 and has been replaced by housing and the large Bass Hill Plaza shopping centre. Ironically, there is still lots of open land nearby with The Crest and the Landsowne area bushland areas nearby.
