The "Faces Of War" Memorial in Roswell, GA is located in a municipal park adjacent to the Roswell City Hall. This monument is fourteen feet tall and twenty feet wide, featuring Georgia marble cap stones and colonial bricks. The highlight of the monument is a bronze sculpture of fifty faces depicting an array of emotions including fear, grief, and courage. The faces represent American servicemen and servicewomen, medical personnel, and Vietnamese civilians. The sculpture includes a a figure of a serviceman reaching out to touch the hand of a girl, who is cast outside of the main sculpture area. This produces a stunning 3-D effect where the sculpture appears to be reaching out to the viewer. This effect is highlighted by a sheer waterfall that cascades over the backdrop of faces, creating a mirror in which viewers are able to see their own reflection.
The inscription at the base of the statue reads:
The Faces of War-heroic and tragic
Faces of the past held present in our memories
Faces of soldiers and civilians - men, women, children all ages, all colors
And our own Faces - observes who can never know the entire story
The whole concealed and reflected by a thin veil of water
Water representing tears - separation of past and present a cleaning
And emerging from the Faces, one soldier stepping toward the future into a garden
Stepping toward the next generation a child - His legacy and ours
