The Pioneer Nature Trail is located at the Council Grove Lake and was designated as a National Recreation Trail in 2009. This 1.25 mile long hiking trail consists of two loops. The first trail loop is ¾ mile long. The second trail loop “Buffalo Wallow Loop” is ½ mile long, and is (as of this posting) host to one of the older geocaches in Kansas. Both loops offer abundant wildlife viewing opportunities. The trail is open to walkers and is largely grass covered with a width of six feet on average. Accessibility information is available at trailhead signs. Visitors may use the trail anytime between sunrise and sunset. There are several footbridges along the trail, mostly spanning shallow washes and creeks. This one features a nice touch - a short "ramp" at each end to ease your passage if you're on a bike.
Trail Name: Pioneer Nature Trail
