Pierre-Auguste Renoir painted Marie-Thérèse Durand-Ruel Sewing in 1882. This painting was acquired by Sterling and Francine Clark on July 23, 1935. The couple established the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute in 1955 to display their private art collection. Today it is one of the premier art museums in the world with a large collection of French Impressionism Paintings.
