Founded in 1947, the society has maintained an active role in preserving and promoting the history of the Campbelltown area. The society has as its base the lovely Glenavelon house with stables in the background
The was built by Michael Byrne, which is a two story man house and smaller servants quarters. For visitors, there are high quality exhibits which show the history through artifacts.
The gravestone of James Ruse, the pioneering farmer is preserved at the headquarters.
