The campaign in Papua New Guinea from July 1942 to January 1943, of which the fighting on the Kokoda Track formed a large part was, with respect to the direct security of Australia, the most important ever fought by Australian soldiers.
This commemorative pathway opened in 1994 and is next to Concord Hospital which was formerly a hospital for soldiers.
The walkway features 22 stations which describe the action which took place at specific places on the track. There is also an education centre which provides programs for school students and the general public. Sevices are also held for ANZAC day and VP Day(Victory in Pacific).
A commemorative scroll is projected on the wall of the education centre.
