En el ídice toponímico del Cartulario de Sant Cugat del Vallés, tenemos una cita de Santa María de Palacio Salatha donde ya se la cita como "parrochia" en un documento de 1071 (doc.672).
Según el pergamino que se encuentra en el Archivo de la Corona de Aragón, la consagración del templo de Santa María de Palacio Solitar fue el 14 de noviembre de 1122. La ceremonia de consagración la realizó el arzobispo de Tarragona y obispo de Barcelona , Sant Oleguer. Hacia el año 1307 se cambió la orientación de la iglesia, según mandó el obispo Ponç de Gualba en la visita pastoral del 18 de diciembre de 1304. El actual campanario no es el original . Parece que en 1506 un incendio lo destruyó, haciendo uno nuevo dos años más tarde, que se supone que sería el actual. Este incendio también afectó a la bóveda de la naveque se construyó de nuevo. De las campanas se sabe la fecha y autoría de una de ellas, construida en 1674 por "Jauma Gibert y Cristofhol Vilasosa"; la fecha de una de las pequeñas es en 1874 y la de la otra, que procede de la iglesia de Santa Magdalena, es 1846 que además tiene los nombres de "Joseph Carol y Joseph Dura", así como la imagen de la patrona con Jesús en brazos.
