H.H.W. 30.12.1947 means Highest flood on December 30, 1947.

"The Saar flood was a flood of the century in the Saarland in late 1947 to early 1948.

Due to heavy precipitation and a melting of snow in the Vosges Mountains, the Saar rose to as much as 10.62 meters in late December, the highest level since 1784. The city centers of Saarbrücken, Saarlouis, Merzig, and Völklingen were affected.

In Saarbrücken, Bahnhofstrasse was about one meter under water for a week. Several towboats tore out of their moorings and grounded on the lawn of Saarbrücken-St. Arnual Airport.

In Saarbrücken, two high water marks remind of the high water level: At the building Saarstraße 11, corner Fröschengasse and at the town hall St. Johann, back side Gerberstraße."
