On September 20, 1873, the Club Mediterráneo was born, promoted by a group of young people from Malaga who were fond of nautical sports, and whose first objective was to practice rowing. The first president was Tomás Heredia Livermore . The location of what is the oldest Yacht Club in Spain has always been related to the Port of Malaga, in different locations always close to one of the emblems of the city, La Farola.
In 1892, the Extraordinary General Meeting of the entity offered the honorary presidency to King Alfonso XIII , who accepted, granting the use of the pennant and the royal title. Since then, it is the only Club that has the honor of having its shield bear the colors red and gold and the royal crown.
Since its inception, the Real Club Mediterráneo has been dedicated to the promotion and practice of sports activities related to the sea. At first, rowing and sailing, to which other modalities such as swimming or sport fishing were later incorporated. Currently, sports such as triathlon, futsal, tennis, paddle tennis and fronton are also practiced, and directed activities related to fitness are offered.
