This juvenile Common Box Turtle was crossing Heaston Road, moving west to east, about six miles southwest of Okarche. This little turtle was fearless and did not retreat into his (her?) shell when I approached, only doing so when I picked him (her?) up for a close up.
Any time you see a turtle cross a road away from water in Oklahoma, it's almost certainly either a Common Box Turtle or a Red-Eared Slider. This one was the former species.
