"The orientation table is made of metal, and it will allow you to find your bearings and discover, on a clear day, a remarkable panorama of the valley which surrounds this slag heap.

Formerly a marsh, the site was backfilled with various deposits throughout the mining era. It was then mainly black shale, ash, red shale but also a whole heap of fuels which, even today, lead to the combustion of certain parts of the slag heap, forming fumaroles in places.

The deposits have been organized in such a way as to form a "canyon" within the slag heap itself, providing a somewhat particular relief. Since the closure of the mines, the site has changed a lot. The sowing linked to the requalification of the slag heap as well as the natural plant colonization today offer a very contrasting landscape and atmospheres to discover."

Autrefois marais, le site s’est vu remblayer par différents dépôts tout au long de l’époque minière. Il s’agissait alors principalement de schiste noir, de cendre, de schiste rouge mais aussi de tout un tas de combustibles qui, aujourd’hui encore, entraînent la combustion de certaines parties du terril, formant des fumerolles par endroit.

Les dépôts ont été organisés de manière à former un « canyon » au sein même du terril, apportant un relief un peu particulier. Depuis la fermeture des mines, le site a bien changé. Les ensemencements liés à la requalification du terril ainsi que la colonisation végétale naturelle offrent aujourd’hui un paysage et des ambiances très contrastés à découvrir."
